Color Puzzle Game 1.9

Achromatopsia sufferers beware

Step away from frantic platformers and dull interminable village builders. Color Puzzle may sound bland, but in all actuality, its concept is quite refreshing. We've all got to play digital jigsaw puzzle at one time or another, but truth be told, the experience is just not the same. The tactile sensation of rummaging through the pile of disorganized pieces, trying to make sense of everything carries with it a satisfaction that is only fitting the final feeling of accomplishment. Dragging the mouse pointer over bidimensional fractions of images just doesn't live up to it.

Color Puzzle

When it comes to Color Puzzle, you can't find a better medium to enjoy it than a touchscreen. Color Puzzle takes the idea of the classic jigsaw model, but instead of using unique edges to fit pieces together, Color Puzzle uses color hues. This method also removes the need for a puzzle image, as the color is now both the mechanism and the final artwork that needs to be assembled.

The difficulty of solving a puzzle varies with the amount of color variability involved and the number of squares that need to be arranged. Squares marked with an "X" are immovable and serve as hints. Without them, you'll probably be completely lost. The colors you work with are most often hues that bridge from one X square to another. Connecting two of these anchor squares is usually the first thing you want to do, as it will help you get a sense of the degree of color mixing for the entire image.

Color Puzzle

Once you complete an image, you will get a Heart. These are used to unlock more levels and game modes, including a Challange mode from which you can unlock phone background images. In fact, every level can be exported as an image to use for your phone. The Basic Mode alone contains 180 levels, so you might eventually get bored of having various squarish looking backgrounds, but as puzzles, they are reasonably varied visually and regards to which squares are fixed.

After finishing a level, you'll see how you compare to the world average concerning how many moves it took to solve it.

Final Thoughts

Color Puzzle is one of those games that manage to hit all the right points for me. It offers enjoyable puzzles that still aren't made to twist your brain that much. The interface colors are very calming, and the sounds are comfy. Recommended for late night commutes.
